The Project is busy this week finalizing and testing another Specify 6 update release. Registered installations will receive notification of the update automatically. We're responding to various small issues in this update and we'll have a list of changes in the release notes inside the update installer (and we'll begin soon to publish version changes on our web site). We're also working on an in-house application, the Specify Converter, which we will use to convert Specify 5 databases to Specify 6. We're estimating another week or two to complete the ongoing work on that.
We are also reworking Specify 6's data entry forms for Linux. Due to the various flavors of Linux and the diversity of fonts and font sizes that people use with Linux workstations, producing a single set of default forms to distribute that look good on every Linux monitor is more of a challenge than with Windows or Mac OS. But we are making progress, and a new set of default forms for Linux will be available in this next update release or in a subsequent one. The forms we ship with Specify are starting points for further customization, they have a fraction of the data fields available in the Specify data model.
On the helpdesk front, we are dealing with various installation and Specify Wizard issues, and the forums on this site are active. Look for an update release in the next few days.
